What is Cyber Security?
Cyber security is a broad term, that refers to the security of information and code, for a variety of different technologies. Cyber security is used to help keep programs and data from attack, damage, or unauthorized access by an outside source. With computing, and storage of data becoming much more common for even the smallest of businesses, cyber security has become a very real concern for many.
Everyone from the government, to your local small business, requires cyber security to keep their sensitive data from falling into the wrong hands. The term cyber security refers to the security of many different aspects of an application or system, including network security, data security, application security, recovery of lost data, and security for the end user who is using these programs.
One Of the most common forms of security that cyber security encompasses his application security. This is the use of software and hardware, as well as procedural methods, and the safeguards that are put in place to protect them from third-party threats.
There are numerous security measures that are built into many applications in an effort to protect the applications from would-be intruders. Hackers are likely to attempt to access or modify sensitive data that is contained within the application, which is something that every business should look to avoid.
There was a period in time when application security was an afterthought for many developers, but it is become one of the most sought after aspects of development for many small businesses in recent years.
Application security begins with identifying the different assets within an application, and then defining which parts of the application are going to have access to which assets. In doing so, it makes it much tougher from third-party sources to gain access to assets, with the portions of the application that have access to the most sensitive assets having increased security measures.
Network security refers to the safeguards that are put in place to keep individuals from accessing sensitive data over a network. Because the network is often the first point of access for third-party hackers, that are looking to gain access to sensitive data or applications on the network, many businesses take their network security very serious. Because the network has access to so many different applications and data storage areas, there are many safeguards that are put in place for small and large businesses alike when they hired cyber security experts to secure their network.
Cybersecurity is tough to pin down to specifics, because it is an industry that is constantly evolving. It is problematic, because security risks are constantly evolving as hackers find new way around applications and internetworks.
Of course, with each company using different applications for their business, oftentimes potential security threats will go unnoticed until they are utilized by hackers, which is definitely something that can affect small businesses in a negative way if left untouched.
Some issues that often crop up with cyber security is the fact that many businesses only focused on the largest of known threats, which can leave some of the smaller threads undefended. It is important, that if you are looking for a cyber security company, that you are aware of their record, and know that they are going to put their best foot forward in protecting you from all threats, both small and large.
There are number of advisory organizations that are reshaping the industry, allowing individuals and businesses, to be more aware of what threats are potentially seen in their software. There are even many mobile security firms to choose from.
Cybersecurity is a broad term that encompasses many different aspects of general computer security. These include application security, network security, information and data security, as well as end-user security. As a business, it is your responsibility to protect user data from unknown outside threats including hackers, and if you have to hire a cyber security agency to do so, it is always in your best interest to protect not only your business data, but your applications and networks from these threats as well.
Cybersecurity has become a very real concern for all businesses, small and large, because of the potential threats and identity theft problems that have become so commonplace over the course of the last decade or so.
